Upgrading Sentinel HL Keys to Driverless Configuration
Sentinel HL (Driverless configuration) keys are a type of Sentinel HL keys that do not require the Run-time Environment to protect an application on a Windows machine. These keys provide several advantages over Sentinel HL keys, including:
>On Windows machines, HID drivers are used instead of HASP key drivers. (HID drivers are an integral part of the Windows operating system.) In many cases, it is possible to use these keys without installing any additional support software.
>Support for a larger number of Features.
>Larger on-key memory space.
While creating a Product, if you select the Upgrade to Driverless check box for Sentinel HL (HASP configuration) keys, then these keys can be upgraded in the field to Sentinel HL (Driverless configuration) keys. The HASP HL keys and Sentinel HL keys that are already in Driverless mode will remain unchanged.
**WARNING** This process is irreversible and upgraded keys may be inaccessible by protected applications using API libraries older than Sentinel LDK 6.3. Upgraded Sentinel HL Net (Driverless Configuration) keys will require Sentinel LDK 7.0 or later.
NOTE If the firmware version on a Sentinel HL key is earlier than 4.60, the firmware is automatically upgraded when you upgrade that key to Sentinel HL (Driverless configuration). This upgrade affects the firmware only—Sentinel LDK functionality remains unchanged. This upgrade is not relevant for Drive microSD keys.
To determine the version of the firmware, connect the key to a computer where Sentinel LDK Run-time Environment is installed and view the list of keys in Sentinel Admin Control Center.
If you choose not to upgrade the firmware version (for example, by clearing the Upgrade to Driverless check box), the key will not be upgraded to Sentinel HL (Driverless configuration).
