Custom Persistence Device

Sentinel RMS makes use of persistence data to securely maintain encrypted records of licensing information. This is a fundamental part of the overall license enforcement solution. Refer to the section Persistence Data-Dependent License Models to learn about how and where the persistence data is created when a particular type of license is used.

By default, persistence data is managed completely by the RMS components. However, this prevents vendors from utilizing alternative persistence data storage locations. The Custom Persistence Device (CPD) interface allows vendors to implement a persistence storage approach of their choice. Using the CPD, vendors can define and control the policy for persistence data storage. Some examples of persistence storage options are:

>External SQL database

>Data store in the cloud

>Secure memory area of a hardware key

>Hidden/non-OS disk areas

NOTE   Since the Sentinel RMS 9.8 release, Unified APIs are introduced for managing standalone and network licensing scenarios discussed in Persistence Data-Dependent License Models. The CPD interface is not yet supported through Unified API.
