Checking in Key Data

The Check In Key dialog box enables you to process and store the Sentinel security key information that is stored in a connected Sentinel HL key. This information can be used in connection with Protection Key Update orders.

In addition, you can use this dialog box to format a key, or to generate a file that you can send to a Customer to format a key that is already deployed.

To check in Key Data:

1.Select Entitlements > Check In Key. The Check In Key dialog box opens.

NOTE   You may be prompted to download and copy some files to a specified location. If you do not have appropriate permissions to copy the files to this location, your system administrator can help you to copy the files.

2.Connect the Sentinel HL keys. The C2V data on all the connected Sentinel HL keys is processed and their identification information is displayed, including the Key ID, Key Type, and Batch Code.

3. Select a key from the list and click Check In.

NOTE   If previous updates are pending for a key, it will not be checked in to the Sentinel LDK-EMS database, and "You have # pending updates" message is displayed. You will need to apply or remove the pending updates before checking in the key, as described below.

In this dialog box, you can do the following:

View Details: View the Feature and memory details of a key.

Format: Erase all license and memory data stored in the key and reset the data for that key in the Sentinel LDK-EMS database. For details, see Formatting a Sentinel Protection Key.

Clear Time Tamper: Re-enable blocked applications by changing the V-Clock time. For details, see Enabling Protected Applications Blocked Due to Time Tampering.

Applying or Removing Pending Updates

If previous updates are pending for a key then you need to apply or remove these before applying new updates.

To apply or remove pending updates:

1.Select a Key and click Check In.

2. Apply or remove any pending updates. (If previous updates are pending for the Key, a message is displayed with the number of pending updates.)

To remove all pending updates, click Remove.

To apply pending updates:

i.Click View. The Pending Updates dialog box appears.

ii.Select the Key and click Generate to generate the pending updates.

Synchronizing Protection Key with the Database

When the license information stored on the Sentinel HL key is updated outside of Sentinel LDK-EMS, the Synchronize button is displayed at time of checking in the key.

In this scenario, Sentinel LDK-EMS is not aware of changes made to the Sentinel HL key, however, it can identify that the information stored on the Sentinel HL key is different from the current state of the database. Therefore, it prompts the user to synchronize the Sentinel LDK-EMS database with the updated license information on the Sentinel HL key. Once the synchronization operation is performed, you will be able to check in the HL key.

To synchronize the Sentinel LDK-EMS database with the Sentinel HL key:

1.Insert the Sentinel HL key into a USB port on your computer.

2.Click the Check In button. The Synchronize button appears and a message is displayed: 'Key information not synchronized with database.

3.Click the Synchronize button. The Sentinel LDK-EMS database is synchronized and a success message is displayed. If you now try to check in the Sentinel HL key, the message displayed after Step 2 (see above) does not appear and the key is successfully checked in.
