What is a License Model?
A license model is a combination of various attributes that define how and when a product is sold to an end user. Each license model defines the conditions that control the use of a feature in a product. Sentinel EMS provides you the flexibility to add multiple license models to the features in your products, so that you can secure the products and generate different types of licenses according to your requirements.
License models map various license attributes into logical groups known as attribute groups, which define how a hardware, software application or service is being deployed.
License models may contain some or all of the following attribute groups:
Attribute Group | Description |
---|---|
License Duration | Duration for which the license is valid. |
Vendor | Miscellaneous information that you can include for identification as a part of your license code. |
You can create your own license model by copying an existing license model and changing its attributes. Each license model includes:
>Enforcement Technology:
>Attribute Groups: When you select a license model from the list, its attribute groups are populated on the right side of the page. Attribute groups are used to group the attributes that define how a software application is deployed.
>Attributes: The actual property definitions including the name, data type, and possible range.
For a detailed list of license models supported in Sentinel EMS, their attributes, default values, and other details, refer to:
>Appendix A: Supported Sentinel Fit License Models
License Model Status
A license model can be enabled or disabled. Only enabled license models are available for use. The Status attribute represents the following status of a license model:
>Enabled: License model is available for inclusion in features.
>Disabled: License model is disabled and is not available to be included in features.
Prerequisites for Copying a License Model
To create a new license model, you copy an existing license model and modify its attributes. Following are the prerequisites for copying a license model:
>Catalog permissions to copy a license model must be available to the user.
>A predefined license model, which is available with Sentinel Fit.
